TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Temporary Closure of Old Poydras Street between S. Galvez Street and Bertrand Street

The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works (DPW) announces that beginning Monday, June 2, at 7 a.m., through Wednesday, June 5, at 5:30 p.m., Old Poydras Street will be closed to through traffic between S. Galvez Street and Bertrand Street. The temporary closure will allow DPW contractor Barriere Construction Co. LLC to complete street repairs as part of the DPW772: Right of Way Improvement Project. Local access will be maintained.

Parking will be prohibited on blocks where crews are actively working. “No parking” signs will be posted in advance to notify residents and businesses.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during the closure. Traffic control measures — including signage, barrels and fencing — will be in place to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians.

Following the full closure, intermittent lane closures on Old Poydras Street are expected the week of June 10 to support ongoing roadway patching operations.

This work is part of the DPW772: Right of Way Improvement Project, which includes street milling, paving and sidewalk repairs at various locations throughout the city. Barriere Construction Co. LLC is leading construction activities, which generally take place Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work as needed.

Since May 2018, DPW has completed 225 infrastructure projects valued at approximately $1.2 billion. Currently, 33 projects are under active construction with a total value of nearly $436 million.
