Getting a new roof in New Orleans? You'll need a permit for that.
The City of New Orleans remains committed to supporting homeowners as they face rising insurance costs and prepare for future storm-related damage. As part of that commitment, Ordinance 30,235 MCS now requires a separate residential re-roofing permit for any roof replacement work affecting 50 percent or more of the roof on one- and two-family dwellings. Minor roofing work, defined as less than 50 percent replacement, is exempt from permitting unless it meets other criteria that would otherwise require a permit.
This policy is intended to help homeowners qualify for reduced insurance premiums or meet roofing grant program requirements by providing a formal, independent record of completed roof replacements.
